Kids in Space
Kids in Space is designed to encourage primary school students to engage with the nation’s growing space ecosystem, introduce them to space technology and different jobs within the space industry and spark their interest in a career in the space industry. This grant opportunity also provides professional development for teachers, providing support to develop learning programs for students to engage in STEM and innovation-based learning using 3D design and printing.
Kids in Space targets primary school students and teachers across Australia, including in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia, highlighting why space matters, encourages innovative STEM learning, and provides professional development for teachers to continue the work after the grant project is completed.
The objectives of the grant opportunity are to:
- inspire STEM interest in primary-aged students across Australia
- increase engagement and participation in STEM from a diverse range of Australians
- increase engagement and participation from students in regional, rural and remote areas in STEM and space education
- promote STEM and space-based education as a viable study pathway for students in Australia
- create opportunities for Australian students to be involved in space-based education and have exposure to space-technologies
- promote the broad range of career pathways available in the space industry and the skills necessary to build a space workforce.
- develop in-school capability for STEM and space-based education.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:
- increased awareness of career knowledge and pathways in the space sector
- increased nation-wide space education in Australia
- increased educator professional development and skill uplift in the context of STEM curricula
- delivery of STEM-based, digital and hands-on education in each state and territory.
Maker’s Empire Pty. Ltd., ABN 60 167 294 206 has been identified as the appropriate recipient because:
- it has a well-established record of delivering the same or similar activities
- it has the required technical expertise to undertake the activities
- the nature of the grant activity is specifically dependent on the expertise of Maker’s Empire Pty. Ltd.
- there are a limited number of service providers capable of delivering the project
- it leverages the existing work undertaken by Maker’s Empire Pty. Ltd. ensuring the most efficient and effective use of grant funds.
