Description:

The Australian Government recognises the importance of Australians having access to health care services when they need it. Approved Medical Deputising Services (AMDS) improve patient’s access to health care in the after-hours period.

The AMDS Grant Program will provide $4 million over one financial year in one off transition funding to AMDS to support business model redesign, and integration of AMDS call out and patient information systems with general practices. The level of funding provided to successful applicants through this grants process will based on MBS after hours billing in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The grant program under this initiative is consistent with the Department of Health’s Outcome 1 – Health Policy, Access and Support, Program 1.6: Primary Health Care Quality and Coordination.

The objectives of the program are: 

  • To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes.
  • To improve the coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
  • Improved access to the range and choice of medical and health care services available to target population groups including children, disadvantaged groups, Indigenous populations, and people in regional, rural and remote locations.
  • Continued provision of AMDS services during the after-hours period, particularly where there is no general practitioner or other specialist support available.
  • Increased integration of AMDS with the general practices.
  • Increased efficiency and effectiveness of after-hours primary health care for patients, particularly those with limited access to health services.
  • Improved efficiency coordination of care for patients at risk of poor health outcomes are met through efficient and effective AMDS services in the after-hours period.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for this grant, a deputising service must:

  • Be invited to apply for the Grant Opportunity by the Department of Health; and
  • Be enrolled and operational on the AMDS Program as of 1 January 2022.

$4,000,000.00

Estimated Grant Value (AUD):

From $5,000.00 to $1,000,000.00
