Description:

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to ensure continued delivery of locum services to remote NT First Nations communities for the financial year 2024-2025 while a longer-term solution is co-designed with the sector.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are:

  • Consult with First Nations health service providers about their short-term health workforce needs;
  • Actively attract and recruit health professionals to take up short-term placements in remote First Nations communities in the NT, prioritising Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services where possible; and
  • Deploy recruited health professionals to remote First Nations communities on short-term placements of up to 3 months.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:

  • Meet critical health workforce shortages in remote NT health services through short-term backfilling of health professionals; and
  • Increase access to primary health care services in remote NT communities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to improve health outcomes.
  • Enhance cultural safety of NT workforce more broadly.
  • Support any transition activities to align with future solutions.

Aspen has established networks in remote communities in the NT through the Remote Area Health Corps (RAHC), Rural Locum Assistance Program (RLAP) and Aged Care RLAP programs. Aspen also has well established working relationships with NT Government health services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) which have sought assistance in providing temporary health workforce to remote health services in the NT.

Aspen has key relevant existing projects (RAHC, RLAP and the Aged Care RLAP) that are contracted with the Department of Health and Aged Care, and it also has independent contracts which provide workforce solutions for short-term and long-term placements into regional and remote locations across Australia. 

Aspen is well experienced in delivering rural and remote locum services to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) through its RLAP, Aged Care RLAP and RAHC.

$4,000,000.00
