Description:

This grant opportunity has been established as a one-off or ad hoc grant for funding of $1.4 million (GST exclusive) for Beyond Blue to undertake a national leadership role in the implementation of The Way Back Support Service (Way Back).

The Way Back supports people after a suicide attempt or experiencing a suicidal crisis, originally developed by Beyond Blue, the Way Back is delivered in partnership with state/territory governments, Primary Health Networks (PHNs), referring hospitals and local service providers.

The Way Back model, aims to provide non-clinical, assertive outreach, follow-up care and practical support to individuals following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis. The model is based on evidence that the highest period of risk for suicide is the three months following a suicide attempt; with research indicating approximately half of suicides occur within the first month following discharge from a hospital.

The objective of this grant is for Beyond Blue to provide national support and oversee the implementation of the Way Back that provides outreach, follow-up care and practical support to individuals after a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis in up to eight Victorian PHN regions.
