The Government has identified three grant opportunities under the Disability Advocacy Support Program: 

• Service Delivery 
• National Advocacy Helpline 
• Sector Strengthening (this Grant Opportunity). 

The Sector Strengthening grant opportunity supports sector-wide development by funding training, capability building, evidence-informed improvements, and work to identify and elevate systemic advocacy issues.

This grant opportunity builds on the National Centre for Disability Advocacy (NCDA), established in 2022. Its actions are targeted towards supporting the organisations delivering the services under the service delivery and national advocacy helpline grants of the program, rather than supporting people with disability directly.

Targeted education and training will be delivered by the organisation funded under the Sector Strengthening grant opportunity, focused on building the capabilities essential to achieving the Disability Advocacy Support Program outcomes and objectives. These capabilities are detailed at Appendix B of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines (the Guidelines).

The grantee must demonstrate the experience and capabilities needed to achieve program outcomes (Appendix A of the Guidelines). Non-negotiable capabilities form eligibility criteria in the Guidelines.

This grant opportunity contributes to the achievement of Outcome 4.1 – Disability and Carers, which supports people with disability and carers to actively participate in community and economic life.

The grant opportunity will invite a single provider to apply through a closed, non-competitive process to build on the Australian Government’s investment in the National Centre for Disability Advocacy (NCDA) since 2022. 

The organisation is considered eligible to apply for the grant opportunity based on its demonstrated experience and expertise, and its stated mission to advance the rights of people with disability.
