Description:

The ANFPP is a strengths based nurse home visiting program that supports mothers who are pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child from around 16 weeks gestation to two years of age. The program provides comprehensive support for antenatal and postnatal care, child health and development, and parental life-course support. The ANFPP directly contributes to the National Agreement on Closing the Gap target 2 - Babies are born healthy and strong

The ANFPP is currently delivered in 13 sites and will be delivered in 15 sites by 30 June 2025. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to provide one new organisation with ANFPP funding to implement and build the program over three years (2022-23 to 2024-25)

The ANFPP aims to improve maternal and child health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families by:

  • assisting women to engage in good preventive health practices;
  • supporting parents to improve their child’s health and development; and
  • assisting parents to develop a vision for their own futures, including continuing education and finding work.

The ANFPP structure is guided by 15 Core Model Elements (Appendix A) based on the NFP model to ensure service delivery achieves the desired program outcomes including:

  • improved pregnancy outcomes;
  • improved child health and development outcomes; and
  • improved parental life course.

The Core Model Elements are supported by evidence of effectiveness based on research, expert opinion, field lessons, and theoretical rationales

To ensure consistency in implementing and delivering the ANFPP, under the licencing requirements the department engages the ANFPP National Support Service (NSS). The NSS supports the implementing sites and ensures the ANFPP suits the Australian context and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families
