Description:

The National Indigenous Kidney Transplantation Taskforce (NIKTT) was established to improve access to, and outcomes of, kidney transplantation for First Nations people. NIKTT has created a national network of consumers, clinicians and community and research advocates, who share the mission of enhancing the cultural safety of renal services and improving accessibility to First Nations peoples, thus improving kidney transplantation waitlisting numbers and increasing the rate of transplantation. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to ensure continuity of NIKTT activities for another year.  

Grant opportunity objectives:  

  • Improve access to kidney transplantation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 
  • Development and growth of Indigenous Reference Groups (IRGs), 
  • Development of national data to track achievements in closing the disparity gap in kidney transplantation. 

This grant contributes to achievement of the Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme (IAHP). The IAHP is made available under Outcome 1 – Health Policy, Access and Support, Program 1.3 – First Nations Health from the department’s Portfolio Budget Statement.

The Tranplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand Inc (TSANZ) is the peak representative body of transplantation professionals in Australia. TSANZ aims to promote research, best clinical practice and advocacy to improve outcomes and increase access to organ transplantation in Australia and New Zealand. TSANZ has already established networks, providing access to additional resources, expertise, and support.  

The eligible organisation was determined as it currently auspices the NIKTT. It has demonstrated expertise and experience in the Indigenous transplantation field and can address the specific issues at hand. Service provider continuity will ensure the seamless continuation of efforts and sustain progress made thus far.

$650,380.00
