The Traceability Grants Program (TGP), part of the Modernising Agricultural Trade – Protecting Australia’s Clean, Green Brand initiative, supports collaborative agricultural traceability projects that assist implementation activities under the National Agricultural Traceability Strategy 2023 to 2033 (the strategy).

TGP’s objectives are to:

Support industry projects that enhance our agricultural supply chain traceability systems, including developing technologies that digitise information flow.

Provide an advantage for exporters in overseas markets to assist them to maintain their competitive edge.

Increase opportunities to export Australian commodities.

TGP – Round 3

TGP Round 3 will award grants totalling $4 million (excl GST) - $2 million in 2023-24 and $2 million in 2024-25. The minimum grant size is $50,000 and the maximum is $500,000.

The strategy has 8 strategic objectives and identifies 11 priority areas for action. The TGP - Round 3 will fund projects that focus on the priority areas for action that require further investment:

Priority areas for action 4: Enhance and support trust and adoption of agricultural traceability through demonstration of value-add and return on investment.

Priority areas for action 6: Improve two-way, producer-consumer information flows to identify value-add creation and distribution opportunities and drive business development.

Priority areas for action 9: Establish a flexible and responsive agricultural traceability research and development agenda.

Who can apply

Companies, incorporated associations, partnerships, joint (consortia) applications by a lead organisation, not-for-profit organisations, publicly-funded research organisations and registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporations.

We cannot provide a grant if the project duplicates activities for which the applicant, or a project partner, is already receiving or has previously received funding from the Commonwealth or from another source.

To be eligible you must:

have an Australian Business Number (ABN)

be registered for GST

have an account with an Australian financial institution.

and be one of the following entities:

a company incorporated in Australia

an incorporated association

a partnership

a joint (consortia) application with a lead organisation[1]

a not-for-profit organisation

a publicly funded research organisation as defined in the Glossary

an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006.

You are not eligible if you are an:

organisation included on the National Redress Scheme’s website on the list of ‘Institutions that have not joined or signified their intent to join the Scheme’ (www.nationalredress.gov.au)

Commonwealth, state, territory or local government agency or body (including government business enterprises)

individual

unincorporated association

overseas resident/organisation

Grant activities must:

address the program objective.

target at least one of the three priority areas for action referred to in section 2.1.

clearly and explicitly state how your project aligns to the objective and priority areas for action within the application form and associated templates.

Eligible expenditure:

Reasonable costs associated with delivery of the activities, for example, salaries and on-costs of those directly associated with the project delivery.

Eligible travel costs (including accommodation, flights, travel insurance and general travel expenses). Travel costs must directly relate to the project and be agreed as part of the grant agreement and/or activity work plan.

How to apply

To apply for a grant from the TGP – Round 3 you need to complete the Traceability Grants Program – Round 3 Grant Application Form and submit it via email to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry at traceability.project@aff.gov.au by 9:00pm AEDT on 18 March 2024 to be eligible for consideration.

Grant applications need to:

• address the program objective
• target at least one of the three priority areas for action referred to in section 2.1 of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines and
• clearly and explicitly state how your project aligns to the objective and the priority areas for action within the application form and associated templates.

Eligible applications will then be assessed by the Selection Advisory Panel (SAP). For more information on the application and assessment process please refer to the TGP – Round 3 Grant Opportunity Guidelines.

Grant applications must be submitted before the closing time. Requests to submit applications after the closing time will only be considered if the applicant can demonstrate they experienced exceptional circumstances that prevented submission.

Broadly, exceptional circumstances are events characterised by the following:

• reasonably unforeseeable,
• beyond the applicant’s control,
• unable to be managed or resolved within the application period.

Failure to allow sufficient time to prepare, review and submit an application, is not considered exceptional circumstances.

Decisions to accept or decline a late application will be considered based on the merits of the request and in accordance with probity principles.
