Description:

Under the Indigenous Boarding Providers - Expansion open competitive grant opportunity guidelines, the National Indigenous Australians Agency (the Agency or NIAA) invites boarding providers with a high proportion of First Nations secondary students from remote and very remote areas to apply for grant funding.

To be eligible for a grant under the Indigenous Boarding Providers - Expansion grant opportunity, you must:

• be an established boarding school, hostel, stand-alone or independent boarding facility targeted at supporting First Nations secondary students from remote or very remote Australia, and
• have a high proportion of First Nations boarding students from remote and very remote areas attending your facility.

A ‘high proportion’ is considered to be 40% to 100% First Nations boarding students from remote and very remote Australia. Preference will be given to boarding providers with a higher proportion of First Nations boarding students from remote or very remote areas. Boarding providers with less than 40% First Nations boarding students from remote or very remote areas may be considered, depending on demand for the grants. Students supported through these grants must be entitled to ABSTUDY Away from Home payments.

This funding builds on the $15.758 million provided in the 2022 calendar year and will support boarding providers to continue to keep students engaged in school and ensure improved education outcomes. This grant opportunity will provide funding for activities in the 2023 calendar year, which may include: delivery of wrap-around supports focused on wellbeing; mental health support; pastoral care; academic support and transition activities; capital projects including upgrades or improvements to facilities; or improving engagement between schools and students’ home communities.
