Description:

The objectives of this grant opportunity are to:
• contribute to an increased, well-distributed General Practitioner workforce ensuring distribution of registrars across all remote areas of Australia;
• facilitate the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS); and
• support medical practitioners to gain Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
RVTS is a three or four year program that aims to support practitioners to gain Fellowship of the RACGP and/or the ACRRM. This is achieved by funding two streams of doctors:
• Stream A – doctors working in rural and remote Australia in Modified Monash Model (MMM) 4-7 locations; and
• Stream B - doctors working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) in MMM 2-7 locations.
RVTS provides an alternative route to vocational recognition for doctors in ACCHS, or a single doctor town, or a town where the medical services would be substantially compromised by the departure of that doctor to undertake training. RVTS enables doctors to train and build cultural competency while providing services in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are:
• to recruit and fill 32 registrar training places each year, 22 in Remote Stream A and 10 in ACCHS Stream B;
• continue to run the targeted recruitment pilot with unfilled positions for up to 5 registrars per year; and
• for registrars to achieve Fellowship with the timeframes specified by the relevant College.
The RVTS grant opportunity will run over 2 years from January 2020 to 31 December 2021.
