Powering Communities
Grant Activity:
Rocky Softball – Install E–Switch
Purpose:
In a bid to reduce our carbon footprint, Rockhampton & District Softball Association (RDSA) is looking to implement an e–switch as soon as possible to facilitate the usage of the current lighting structure and in which this would be adjustable for any future upgrades to the current lighting structure. By having an e–switch installed, RDSA will be able to reduce our current energy use by scheduling game and training light usage which will also improve energy productivity as soon as it is installed. The e–switch would also allow RDSA to dim lights in certain areas of the fields rather than having the lights run at full wattage when not required and make clubs and the association accountable for excessive energy consumption. eSwitch lighting controllers are purpose built for community clubs with multiple users, enabling club members to operate the field lights securely via their smartphones. The eSwitch unit effectively converts switching commands sent via SMS, from the eSwitch application on the smartphone of the user into physical light switching operations. The system offers three levels of access to the system which would allow the Association to provide access and accountability to all clubs who utilise the lighting infrastructure. The eSwitch has a reporting functionality in which the Association will be able to view reports about switching events, estimated costs and the percentage of power used by each club. All active usage of the lighting infrastructure will be recorded in a database and will provide greater accountability for all users and enable administrators to set lockout and curfews for the lighting infrastructure to avoid any unnecessary energy consumption. RDSA would engage the services of a registered contractor who would travel to the grounds to install a control box and provide training to all stakeholders. RDSA would be looking to implement this upgrade as soon as possible.
