Australia, Republic of Korea, and US Trilateral Dialogue in Seoul
This proposal builds on The Asia Foundation ‘s 2021 virtual dialogue among Australia-ROK-US addressing broad security and economic challenges. The Korean delegation was led by Park Jin, who was nominated as ROK’s Foreign Minister by the incoming President Yoon. Based on the first virtual Trilateral Dialogue, a report was published, with a dissemination event scheduled for May 19 by our Washington DC office.
The proposed activity is a 2nd Australia-Republic of Korea-US Trilateral Dialogue that is envisioned to be in-person, 2 full days in Seoul. It will bring 6-7 member delegation from each country (with up to 10 for the host country, Korea). They will be composed of policy experts and thought leaders from all 3 nations. Building on the first Trilateral Dialogue last December, the thematic areas will include (a) security issues, especially around the Quad+ and South Korea's role under the new administration, and (b) economic and trade, particularly supply chain cooperation, including technology, critical raw materials, on-shoring, and other relevant economic trends. The meeting will be held in Seoul. Key deliverables after the dialogue include policy report, press releases, and dissemination events upon confirming with partner organizations.
