Purpose:
The Black Summer fires severely impacted the Alpine She-oak Skink. Deployment of artificial habitat structure will provide urgent shelter to reduce the risk of individual mortality, assist population recovery, and inform genetic rescue initiatives. The Black Summer fires also decimated habitat of the little-known Mountain Skink. Targeted surveys will provide critical information on this species distribution and post-fire status, essential to informing appropriate conservation management. In addition, the Guthega Skink is at extreme risk from climate change and fire events. Installation of protected in-situ habitat is vital to the success of future population supplementation and genetic rescue efforts to safeguard the species.
