Grant Activity:
Who are these strangers and where are they going?
Purpose:
In an Australian first, influential indigenous political activist and curator Djon Mundine OAM will curate a mid-career survey exhibition of celebrated Badtjala artist Dr. Fiona Foley. “Who are these strangers and where are they going?,” confronts the notion of “double discrimination” that is being both a woman and indigenous. This exhibition combines key works from the artist’s 30-year career with never before seen imagery; and her most recent works (currently in development). Central to BIFB’s artistic program, this exhibition comes at a pivotal moment in the artist’s career as she is at the peak of her intellectual and artistic practice.
