Grant Activity:
The Dormant Cancer Cell Life Cycle
Purpose:
In many major cancers, tumour cells spread to the skeleton and hide there in a long-term ‘dormant’ state where they resist current therapies. When they are ‘woken up’, they cause cancer relapse, at which point prognosis is poor. My vision is to devise new treatments that eradicate these rare dormant cells, so as to cure cancers that spread to bone. I will achieve this by defining the cell and molecular pathways, in dormant cells and in the surrounding bone, that control dormancy and relapse.
