Grant Activity:
Connecting Koala Habitats to the Dungog Common
Purpose:
Dungog Common is culturally significant to the Gringai people. Through traditional land management practices such as cultural burns, the project will improve the quality of Koala habitat on this 650-acre reserve. It will employ and enable members of the Karuah Aboriginal community to reconnect to country by restoring a more resilient native vegetation cover on the lands. A Working Group will be established comprised of key local stakeholders and agencies. Activities include infrared drone surveys, game camera monitoring and vegetation surveys to inform locations and management approaches of high priority to Koala habitats. Finally, the project will build on existing on-ground programs at the Common and on adjacent freehold and Crown lands.
