Purpose:
The Keilor Bowls Club undertook to install solar panels 8 years ago to reduce our reliance on grid power, have benefits with reductions in bills and assist in reducing our carbon footprint. We had 2 inverters and 72 panels installed which were planned to cater for all power requirements for the club during daylight hours. 8 years on and we have a new objective: to work toward an off grid situation in the next 5 years. Our current system has aged and is nowhere near suitable in terms of efficiency and technology, nor standards, to allow us to move toward this goal. We have had an audit of the system carried out and have identified an up to date effective system that will allow us to improve performance and let us meet our future objective. It now requires 49 panels and one inverter to meet the same performance as the previous system allowed. The project will entail the removal of the current system and replaced with the new system improving performance and establishing the foundation of an off grid system with batteries in the future.
