Grant Activity:
Spring-cleaning for Red-finned Blue-eye
Purpose:
The Red-finned Blue-eye (RFBE) is only found in the artesian springs of Bush Heritage Australia's Edgbaston Reserve. The primary threat to this species is the Eastern Gambusia fish. Recovery requires Gambusia exclusion fences, local Gambusia eradication, weed and feral pig control, captive breeding, and, finally, reintroduction to rehabilitated springs. There are at least 24 springs requiring rehabilitation to achieve further recovery. We propose a rapid high impact burst of proven recovery actions to increase the number of springs occupied by RFBE by 50 per cent in 12 months.
