Grant Activity:
Prevention of obesity in adolescents using text messages
Purpose:
Overweight and obesity affects nearly 1 in 3 adolescents living in Australia. Weight gain in adolescence is related to heart disease in later life. In Australia, over 90 percent of adolescents own a mobile phone, yet there is limited evidence for text message-based obesity prevention in adolescents. To address this, I will develop and test a scalable text messaged program for adolescents. This research could ultimately help reduce the burden of obesity in adolescents across Australia and globally.
