Purpose:
Explore Australia's night skies through music, astronomy and Indigenous science. Musical sextet The Griffyn Ensemble and astronomer Dr Fred Watson have collaborated to create Southern Skies musical composition that explores the Southern Hemisphere's constellations, and the history of astronomy in Australia. The Griffyn Ensemble will travel to regional communities including Tennant Creek to conduct collaborative workshops with Indigenous artists and communities, exploring Indigenous astronomy. These workshops will inform the development of the work, with subsequent performances in capital cities. These performances will bring together Western and Indigenous understandings of the night sky, told through music and the spoken word.
