National tour 'long water: fibre stories'
Purpose:
‘long water: fibre stories’ will build a national dialogue around contemporary women's fibre practices. Curated by First Nations fibre expert Freja Carmichael the exhibition features work by artists and communities from Quandamooka (Moreton Bay), Kuku Yulanji (Far North QLD), Miam Mir (Torres Strait), Milingimbi (East Arnhem Land), Mua Island (Torres Strait), Yuwaalaraay (North West NSW). The exhibition launches at the IMA May 2020, before touring to Cairns, Thursday Island, Darwin, Milingimbi, Lake Macquarrie, and Mornington Peninsula. Public programs will engage regional communities with First Nations fibre artists to share oral histories and work hands-on to create woven forms.
