PBS Program Name:
DCCEEW 21/22 Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Environment
Grant Program:
Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Determining population genetic structure and composition of greater gliders
Purpose:
This project aims to use single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) genetic markers to assess the genetic diversity, genetic structure and movement patterns of greater gliders on the NSW South Coast in sites affected by the 2019-20 bushfires. The genetic sequence data will assist in greater glider conservation management by informing specific recovery actions such as identifying populations at risk of low genetic diversity and in need of translocation. This project will benefit the University of Wollongong by enabling capacity building in ecological methods, employment and ongoing training and education of students and Early Career Researchers working on the project.
