Grant Activity:
UNIVERSAL NEUROPHOTONIC INTERFACE: A REVOLUTION IN MEDICAL BIONICS
Purpose:
This project aims to deliver the proof-of-concept of a universal nerve interface, which eventually will bidirectionally connect any bionic device to the peripheral nervous system. This would allow the brain to directly control any bionic device and also to receive sensory feedback, i.e. to “feelâ€. We will achieve this by combining permanently photoactive neurons, located on pre-determined areas on a photonic chip and addressed by light. Their axon will form a nerve-like structure.
