Ideas Grants
Grant Activity:
Molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of complex I dysfunction and mitochondrial disease
Purpose:
Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells that produce the chemical ATP for functions such as muscle contraction and triggering of nerves. Mitochondrial Complex I is a molecular motor that helps to make this ATP and defects in this motor cause mitochondrial disease, resulting in early childhood death. In this project we will study how Complex I is assembled and determine how defects in this assembly pathway leads to disease. New insights into therapeutic approaches will be investigated.
