Purpose:
To reduce our small but busy motel's carbon footprint we hope to improve our heating and cooling in the guest rooms. Older style reverse cycle units currently exist. We are looking to replace these with inverter units. To complement this we will also seek to install shade cloth to an existing pergola that overhangs the western windows. In winter, up to 40% of heat can escape through windows while in summer up to 80% can be gained. By introducing shade cloth to the pergola we will be expecting to reduce the heat gains in summer by up to 50%. Finally, the replacement of the existing hot water systems which are over 15 years old will reduce our energy costs by up to 15%.
