Gene modified pluripotent stem cells to generate and empower innate immune cells against poor-prognosis cancers
Purpose:
Standard treatments often do not stop patients dying of common and widely spread solid cancers. A new kind of cell and gene therapy can drive individual patients’ immune systems to get rid of widespread blood cancers. But this immunotherapy does not yet work so well for common solid cancers. We aim to beat this problem by creating banks of ‘off-the-shelf’ functionally enhanced killer immune cells to treat many patients and can also engage the patient's own immune system in tumour destruction.
