Purpose:
This project aims to produce the first history of men’s dress in twentieth-century Australia. Combining fashion and material culture studies with social history, the project aims to advance knowledge about masculinity, changing social relations and consumer practices in Australia's past. Through an exhibition and publications, the project will inform debates about gender, egalitarianism and social roles in Australia.
