Grant Activity:
Stem Cell Derived-Retinal Organoids to Test Novel Genetic Therapies
Purpose:
Genetic blinding eye diseases are the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. Patients have a poor prognosis with high disease burden. Most have no cure and testing of novel therapies is often conducted in systems not reflective of the human retina. Our stem cell-based screening assay, using proven disease biomarkers, will enable the testing of genetic therapies in human eye cells. This project will significantly progress forward the testing of new treatments for these conditions.
