Purpose:

The Mayala IPA Consultation Project must consult with Traditional Owners to make a decision on the appropriateness of the dedication of their country as an Indigenous Protected Area and to develop an Indigenous Protected Area plan of management for the proposed IPA.

Mayala Country ties together over 300 islands, interconnecting sea, reefs and tides in the Buccaneer Archipelago and King Sound off the West Kimberely Coast. This area comprises of 13,231 terrestrial hectares and 366,842 hectares of Sea Country of which the Mayala People hold a Native Title.
