Preserving the viability of wild koala populations in the Gympie Region
Purpose:
Improve koala habitat extent, quality and connectivity by planting at least a further 3,500 trees covering an area of approximately 4 hectares in the Mary Valley region on various private properties. Analyse current data on koalas in the Gympie region, using information from our current drone surveys, additional surveys to be done with this grant and 3 years worth of data collected via Gympie Regional Councils citizen science based Wildwatch program too look at the health and genetic diversity of our local koala populations. Our overall aim is to develop a plan for future activities to keep koalas healthy and living in the wild.
