Powering Communities
Grant Activity:
Installation of solar system at South Broken Hill Football Club
Purpose:
This project will install a suitable solar system to support the Clubs strategies to significantly enhance sustainability and enable outgoing expenses currently dedicated to electricity to be redirected to junior development and well–being programs. Our Club budget a significant amount of funds annually to electricity. We are one of four local AFL clubs in Broken Hill with a population of around 18,000 people. Sustainability and development are critical to ensure AFL remains a viable opportunity for our community. Small regional communities have limited options for enhanced financial resources to establish development programs that support the aspirations and wellbeing of people in our communities. Our Club is committed to create opportunities for development and engagement for girls and boys in Broken Hill that supports aspirational development, engagement, wellbeing, physical activity and liveability. We believe sport is about engagement, health and wellbeing and ensuring the Club develops and supports programs that engage and nurture is essential, especially during harsh times. The Club are committed to redirecting the financial savings gained from the installation of solar at our premises to the development of meaningful junior programs that engage both girls and boys in our community. Female engagement as players has experienced significantly growth across Australia in recent years and the development of junior and senior female competitions in our community has led to many positive outcomes, however specific development programs developed for girls has not kept pace with the games development. Our Members are also committed to the reduction of the Clubs carbon footprint and plans to enhance sustainability for our young people must also consider how we contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gasses to ensure the future of our young people is bright.
