A novel therapeutic for the treatment of traumatic brain injury
Purpose:
The grant funds will enable critical research to assess the efficacy of an Australian manufactured novel neuroprotective pharmaceutical, R18D, in protecting brain cells following moderate to severe sustained mild repeated (e.g. concussions) traumatic brain injury (collectively termed mrmTBI). This serious public health issue represents the greatest contribution to death and disability globally among all trauma-related injuries. Currently there are no pharmaceutical therapies available to these patients to reduce the impact on neurological outcomes.
