The grant will support the Indigenous Speaker Series (‘Speaker Series’) proposed by theGrantee, First Languages Australia. The Speaker Series has up to 18 key Activities that feature and showcase Indigenous language and culture overseas, including as part of DFAT’s Australia now focus country programs in ASEAN (2019), Malaysia (2020) and possibly France (2021). The Speakers Series will feature Indigenous Australian performers, writers, experts in language preservation and revival, and creators of films in language to perform or participate in speaking engagements that celebrate Australian Indigenous languages and promote Australia’s efforts in Indigenous languages preservation and revival.

Given the relevance of, and potential for, these themes to resonate with an ASEAN audience, the Speaker Series will be a highlight of the Australia now ASEAN program. The Speaker Series will align with the Australia now objectives and cross promote the Australia now program throughout the identified ASEAN countries.
