Grant Activity:
A novel proinflammatory mechanism reveals an innovative therapeutic strategy to treat hepatic inflammation in chronic liver disease.
Purpose:
We have generated considerable evidence for a role for tissue ferritin as a mediator of inflammation associated with liver fibrosis (scarring). These highly novel and innovative studies will identify the mechanisms associated with H-Ferritin-regulated liver inflammation in hepatic stellate cells (scar-forming cells in the liver) in chronic liver disease, which we will use to develop novel anti-inflammatory therapeutics to inhibit inflammation and fibrosis associated with chronic liver disease.
