Grant Activity:
A Bioengineered Model of Calcific Aortic Valve Disease
Purpose:
Calcific aortic valve disease is a common cause of mortality and morbidity in the elderly. Our limited knowledge of the mechanisms that drive the progression of aortic stenosis is a major obstacle in developing medical treatments for this disease. This project utilises a bioengineered aortic valve model that mimics features found in the early and late stages of this disease. It enables the systematic study of the complex pathology of this disease and serves as a platform for screening drugs.
