Australia-Korea Cross-Cultural Symposium: Access, Inclusion, and...
An interdisciplinary research team at the University of South Australia (UniSA), in partnership with the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities (KEAD), proposes a project to deliver a cross-cultural symposium to exchange diverse perspectives and knowledge of disability employment between Australia and South Korea. Employment is an important pathway to social and economic participation and inclusion, but the disability employment rate in Australia has not increased over recent decades, despite support programs and policies. Disability employment is optional for Australia's business owners, whereas the Korean mandatory quota system emphasises the social responsibility of corporations to create disability employment opportunities. Such a system has encouraged public and private companies to design diverse disability employment opportunities. This project will offer opportunities to exchange knowledge and skills by investigating the pros and cons of two policy landscapes around disability employment. It will provide a foundation for a long-term bilateral relationship between the KEAD and UniSA through ongoing joint research projects and symposia.
