Purpose:
A grant has been awarded to boost the efforts of schools and pre-schools, community organisations and local councils to address crime and anti-social behaviour by funding crime prevention initiatives that benefit the wider community. The expected outcome of the project is to protect children who are at risk of attack, harassment or violence stemming from racial or religious intolerance. The grant is expected to fund an upgrade of perimeter and internal fencing at the Coburg Islamic Centre, including car park gate and access control, and purchase and install 32 CCTV cameras, 38 security lights, 21 bollards, and a public address system. Twenty security doors will be upgraded including installation of access control systems, and two security guards will be contracted.
The grantee will develop security protocols as well as an education and training program based on effective integration, awareness and culture diversity for Islamic Centre staff and the community. This will ensure ongoing community safety, asset protection and crime prevention.
