Purpose:
More than a million Australians meet criteria for an alcohol use disorder, making it a leading cause of death, injury and many diseases. Current treatment is often ineffective and research receives limited attention with no new medications in 20 years.
We will create a program for treatment development. We will test new medications and new behavioural treatment in experimental animals before moving to human trials. The approach links outstanding basic science and clinical research groups.
