Somewhere, Everywhere, Nowhere
‘Somewhere, Everywhere, Nowhere’ (SEN) is a new 60-minute dance performance co-directed, choreographed and performed by Australian dance maker Alison Currie and Japanese dance maker Yui Kawaguchi at the 2021 OzAsia Festival; produced by Insite Arts. The season includes four performances (total audiences of 1500), plus a workshop (25 participants) and an open seminar for the general public. A full marketing and publicity strategy delivered by the Festival will promote the work and activities. SEN is inspired by the idea of recognising the personal, cultural and contextual similarities and differences that exist between Yui and Alison which then reflects on Japanese and Australian culture. Yui and Alison have been in discussion since they meet at the 2018 OzAsia Festival and have begun collecting images, sound files, sketches and movement which will become the foundation of the work to be made in Adelaide. In collaboration with Yui Kawaguchi (and as COVID-19 restrictions ease) Insite will connect and promote the work to partners in Japan and Europe. Insite Art’s and Yui’s established partnerships and relationships with the Japanese arts community SEN creates an exciting opportunity for us to re-vitalize the direct engagement between our two countries.
