Grant Activity:
Mallacoota Gun Club – Installation of Solar Power and Battery
Purpose:
The Mallacoota Gun Club has a membership of 45, and hosts shooting events for members and visiting gun enthusiasts. The club is located 7kms from Mallacoota town centre in far Eastern Victoria, in the Federal Electorate of Gippsland, and the Local Government area of East Gippsland Shire. The clubs grounds and equipment were severely impacted by the 2019 New Years Eve bushfires, including the loss of the shed housing a clubroom and the main store, the external toilet, the shooting ranges, and other club equipment, as well as the loss of much of the vegetation across the site. The club is gradually rebuilding by replacing equipment and buildings that were lost. A new shed that will combine a clubroom and the club's main storage is being constructed, and with this new shed comes the opportunity to install a modern solar power system that uses renewable energy, reduces energy consumption and costs, and delivers carbon abatement. The existing and old petrol driven generator, which provided the site with all of its energy needs, will be replaced with a modern, energy–efficient alternative. The old generator is extremely unreliable, noisy, and a pollutant. The new 5.2 kW Solar Power with Storage System will be installed on the roof of the new shed accommodating the clubroom and main storage area (see site plan attached). This funding application is for the installation of a 1.6 kW Solar Power and Storage System, and 6 LED highbay lights. The solar power system will expand the capability and capacity of the 3.6 kW Solar Power and storage system that will be installed at the same time. The funding for the base system was included in a larger funding application to the Victorian Government's Shooting Sports Facilities Program (Round 4) to fund the rebuild the club's key infrastructure, including the shooting ranges and associated facilities, that were lost in the Black Summer Bushfires.
