Automating the detection of whales at sea
Purpose:
Thaum is developing a turn–key thermal infrared and optical sensor platform that uses deep–learning algorithms for accurate detection of whales at sea. This will improve NOPSEMA's capacity to provide comprehensive compliance monitoring for survey operations and allow industry stakeholders to be able to demonstrate their compliance with environmental plans. The platform automatically centralises data from each camera and logs detections in real–time to create an auditable photographic record for regulators and industry stakeholders. This project will enable Thaum to participate in an innovation–driven government procurement strategy and help us to further develop internationally competitive, new–to–market innovations.
