Purpose:
Sutherland Shire is home to a growing population of healthy koalas. To date, 156 individual koalas have been recorded on Council, State and National Park land, predominantly in the tall, open sclerophyll forests of the Woronora Valley. If successful, Council aims to improve the extent, quality, and connectivity of koala habitat by: 1. controlling weeds in critical koala habitat, 2. improving and extending koala habitat by planting preferred food tree species where koalas are known to occur, and 3. Implementing a public engagement/education strategy to reduce human-koala conflict e.g. managing dogs off-leash in koala habitat.
