Comprehensive community-based solutions to reduce MDR transmission in a high incidence setting.
Purpose:
Daru Island in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is the site of an unprecedented outbreak of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Our team has been working in partnership with PNG institutions and the local community with Australian government support to respond to this pressing health issue. Our proposed research seeks to implement a community-wide, comprehensive intervention to detect, treat and prevent tuberculosis and to determine its effectiveness in reducing the severity of this drug-resistant outbreak.
