Grant Activity:
Rapid detection of drug resistant tuberculosis in PNG using real-time sequencing
Purpose:
Drug resistant tuberculosis is a growing health problem in Papua New Guinea and a major cause of death. Rapid characterization of drug-resistant tuberculosis is needed in order to reduce transmission and mortality in PNG, but currently is not carried out in country and takes months before results are known. We propose to develop and evaluate an approach for low-cost, portable and rapid drug resistance identification combining magnetic nanoparticles with nanopore sequencing.
