Grant Activity:
Understanding the role of predictive coding in visual processing: from neural circuits to whole brain systems
Purpose:
The simple act of perceiving an object in the world depends not only on the incoming sensory information, but also on the brain’s predictions about the object’s likely identity. This research will characterise the neural mechanisms responsible for predictive coding of visual information. I will combine brain imaging and analogous visual tasks in humans and animal models, and apply novel computational methods to reveal a common code for perception in whole brain systems and individual neurons.
