Pika Wiya Men's Shed. Positive outcomes in Men's Health and wellbeing.
Purpose:
The project will construct a Men's Shed for the Pika Wiya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation to accommodate traditional gatherings and delivery of Pika Wiya programs. PIka Wiya Men's Shed will work towards supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to improve access to health services, their health literacy and increasing connectedness within the male population. This program will incorporate traditional gatherings such as yarning circles and woodcarving to encourage men to discuss issues, supporting them in getting the right help at the right time The connection with Pika Wiya programs, such as the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team, Suicide Prevention and Diabetes Program will be a priority. The Males Advisory Group will ensure activities are relevant to current men's needs giving the program a community voice. Working positively with men, promoting right choices in health and wellbeing.
