Purpose:

OCCURRENT AFFAIR is an exhibition by influential Brisbane-based Aboriginal artist collective proppaNOW touring nationally in partnership with UQ Art Museum and Museums & Galleries of NSW. Touring to eight venues across 4 states and territories OCCURRENT AFFAIR addresses current socio-political, economic and environmental issues, while celebrating the strength, resilience and continuity of Aboriginal culture. Established in 2003, proppaNOW is one of Australiaâ€™s leading intergenerational collectives â€“members Vernon Ah Kee, Tony Albert, Richard Bell, Megan Cope, Jennifer Herd, Gordon Hookey and Laurie Nilsen explore the politics of Aboriginal art and culture, re-thinking what it means to be a â€˜contemporary Aboriginal artistâ€™.
