Harnessing the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stromal cells by priming via surface microtopographies
Purpose:
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) promote tissue repair, but lose their beneficial properties during the production process outside the body. We have found that culturing MSCs on surfaces with microscale patterns alters their properties. We will investigate how these surfaces improve the therapeutic activity of MSCs and develop a technology to allow this to be done at a large scale. Our discoveries will enable higher quality MSCs to be produced for therapies for a wide range of diseases.
