Grant Activity:
Gordon Hookey: A MURRIALITY
Purpose:
‘A MURRIALITY’ is the first survey of renowned Waanyi artist Gordon Hookey, charting three decades of practice where artmaking and activism fuse.
Hookey’s work is best known for its biting satire of Australian culture and politics, its witty critique of racism, and an exploration of oral and image-based history-making traditions. Curated by Jose da Silva, Liz Nowell and Jax Compton ‘A MURRIALITY’ will feature key works from the past 30 years, alongside a new commission of large-scale political banners. Accompanying the exhibition is a significant publication and series of public programs that engage with banner making and Aboriginal community groups.
