Purpose:
This project is a research project aimed at exploring alternative technologies for rare earth separation to produce high purity products. The overall objective is to explore the potential of membrane contactors to improve the efficiency of rare earth separations. More specifically this project will target the separation of a mixed rare earth feed into two bulk fractions comprising of a light (La-Nd) and heavy (SmLu) rare earth fraction with the aims of:
- a Decreasing operating or capital costs; and/or;
- Lower the environmental footprint either as standalone or as a complementary technology to solvent extraction.
